Set within the captivating landscape of Kackeraboite Creek, the “Southern Eastern Centre of Sustainability (SECS)” is designed with a focus on environmental stewardship to achieve a minimal carbon footprint. The building integrates biophilic elements that reflect Aboriginal heritage and Australia’s ecological legacy. Its sculptural form, characterised by the wooden construction and circular motifs, creates an iconic yet harmonious presence within the natural surroundings.
The SECS Centre features a variety of spaces, including multipurpose exhibition areas, offices, a café, laboratories, workshops, lecture halls, performance venues, and a virtual reality zone. A walkable roof garden serves as a living laboratory and educational platform, showcasing native flora and fauna. Sculptural wooden structures, resembling tree trunks, incorporate photovoltaic panels, support bird habitats, and provide natural shading, exemplifying the seamless integration of sustainable practices within an urban context
