The Courtyard, Athens, Greece
The project is conceived as a contemporary residential ensemble that brings together low-rise maisonettes and apartment buildings, forming a cohesive yet clearly articulated architectural composition. The volumetric arrangement establishes a dialogue between individual dwellings and collective living, balancing privacy with community.
Commissioned by Ten Brinke, the brief called for the preservation of the company’s characteristic clarity of form and disciplined architectural language, while simultaneously infusing the development with a contemporary sense of shared living and neighborhood identity.

Located in Melissia, a family suburb of Athens, the project responds to its domestic scale and character through controlled massing, clean geometries, and a calibrated material palette
Generous private outdoor spaces are paired with carefully structured communal areas, reinforcing both autonomy and social interaction.
The apartments are carefully organized to maximize natural light, cross-ventilation, and functional clarity. Each unit is structured around open-plan living and dining areas that extend seamlessly toward generous outdoor spaces. The layouts prioritize fluid movement, clear zoning between public and private areas, and flexibility for contemporary living
The deep, planted balconies form an essential part of the architectural language. More than transitional outdoor extensions, they function as elevated gardens that provide privacy, shading, and bioclimatic benefits. Layered vegetation softens the geometry of the volumes while creating a vibrant, living façade that evolves seasonally.
At ground level, the shared pool forms a calm communal oasis, complemented by the open-air amphitheatre as a flexible gathering space. The landscaped pilotis further enrich the experience, transforming the semi-open ground floor into a shaded extension of the garden, enhancing microclimate comfort and creating a seamless transition between public and private realms.
The maisonettes are conceived as independent vertical homes that combine the privacy of a single residence with the benefits of a larger residential ensemble. Organized over two primary levels with internal connections to generous basement spaces, they offer clear functional zoning between living and sleeping areas while allowing flexibility for additional uses such as playrooms, home offices, or guest suites.
