V-clinique is a plastic surgery medical facility located at Kifisia, a vibrant and eclectic suburb of Athens.
The design of the building façade signals the building’s special use and incorporates the philosophy of Pieris.Architects. Elements of nature closely interwoven into built form and natural materials, such as ceramic tiles, white brick and timber, compose a down to earth zen aesthetic with only the gold details of the façade betraying the niche services offered by the practice.
The semi-transparent façade creates an interesting game of hide and seek, safeguarding the privacy of its visitors and allowing only glimpses of the clinique’s interior to the passersby.
Inside the building, the wooden screens and the minimalistic composition of materials in their natural colours create a relaxing atmosphere of discrete intimacy.
In particular, by integrating nature as a key element of the design and concept, a positive soothing effect on the patient is achieved which further contributes to their treatment, by reducing stress, anxiety and lowering blood pressure, experienced by most people when visiting medical facilities.
The ground floor includes a bright and airy entrance lobby, the reception desk, the main waiting area and two offices/examination rooms. Auxiliary spaces such as staff changing rooms, sanitary facilities and storage have been placed on the lower ground level hidden under a landscaped planted roof at the back of the site. Operating rooms and support spaces such as prep & recovery rooms, the patient changing room and the sterile procedure room are located on the first floor.
Through the application of the principles of biophilic design and the incorporation of plants, the design enhances the well-being and facilitates treatment, advancing the physical, mental and social comfort of the patients.
